I build the thing I needed. Dialysis to a half-marathon in eighteen months taught me that the hard part was never the training — it was everything around it.
“I look better than your dad” is a joke I kept making until it stopped being one. It is the short version of a longer claim: that the change is available, that it is not reserved for people who started earlier or got luckier, and that the scaffolding around the work matters more than the work itself.
