No Tricks.
Latest: Day 5 · Monday, October 5 →
Thirty-one days, October 1 to my forty-eighth birthday. A written entry every day, a Look Back every Saturday, and a coach that runs on my own hardware reading along.
Each filled day opens its page.
Run. Fuel. Write.
- RunBeat last year’s 36:27 at the Rocky Run on Saturday, November 14. By October 31: a treadmill 5K, start to finish. I’ve done this before: every race since 2013 →
- FuelEat on the sun’s schedule: a protein shake at sunrise and at sunset, nothing heavy after dark. Started after a three-day fast.
- WriteMy Drexel dissertation: revise Chapter 1, write Chapter 2, the literature review, and build its data-sources crosswalk. October 19: a status report to my committee, on time whatever state the chapters are in.
One goal is just mine. The page shows the ones I choose.
784 days of training since January 1, 2013.
I’ve run this method on myself in iterations since April 2025.

That chart is mine. So is the data under it.
You’re already generating this. Every run, every set, every meal you log goes to a company that’s using it, and plenty of them talk more about what your data is worth to them than about what it could do for you. When I asked MyFitnessPal for my own food log, the answer was: Data Export is available to Premium members.
It isn’t Runkeeper’s data. It’s mine. So I took it back: the exports from Runkeeper, Hevy and Fitbit and the files on my watch, read on my own machine and pointed at my own goals. That chart up there is the result.
Yours already exists too. Bring it, and use it for you. Hevy works today; Garmin is next. It runs on hardware I own, in my house; your file is read, summarised and thrown away.

- Pivot
- Talk big, then write it down until it’s small enough to act on.
- Transformation
- A goal with a start and an end, named after an artist.
- Evolution
- A fixed stretch of time inside it, named after one of that artist’s songs, with a Look Back at the end.
- Look Back
- What I said I’d do, and what I did. A mirror, not a report card.
- No Tricks
- A month of doing exactly what I said I’d do, in public. It ends on Halloween, which is also my birthday.
Run your own six weeks alongside mine.
A plan every Sunday, a check-in every day, an honest Look Back every Saturday. You start on your Day 1 while I’m on mine. Founding rate for the first six people.
