Asked and answered.
*August 13, 2025, I emailed 33 people: what we’d done, what we were doing, what came next. And at the bottom, a donate button. Today the company ran a Look Back on that email. That one’s the polite version. This is mine.
The scoreboard.
Evolutions
What I’m tentatively calling our structured habit formation framework.
Tentative no more. Day 14 of No Tricks runs on it, in public.
Run the business on it
Makes sense to me to run the business the same way.
Today the company ran its own Look Back.
Harrisburg
Next Saturday, I’m headed to Harrisburg to instruct MS in Techpreneurship students.
Without a way to get there. Got there. Taught through Winter 2026.
The ask
Click to Donate via Stripe.
The Stripe link sells something now: Look Back with the Coach, $10.06.
Money
Eight months without meaningful income.
Then a six-month Comcast contract, December to June. Mine. Then back to it.
The patent
I also confirmed submission of our provisional patent application.
Let it lapse. Details below, because I earned them.
Twenty months, one contract.
The legwork.
Pro bono intake, Penn State Law Intellectual Property Clinic.
Penn State Harrisburg’s LaunchBox introduces me to Ben Franklin Technology Partners.
Patent & Trademark Resource Center, Free Library of Philadelphia.
“Great idea, indefensible patent.”
*The provisional: an AI-driven longitudinal behavioral coaching system on local commodity hardware. “Everyone is literally doing exactly what my provisional was for.”
How do I think I did?
I got the Comcast contract (independent of anyone on this email and by the sweat of my brow like every other fucking thing) and got myself housed by January.
I spent that year (and the four years prior) breaking my ass to get to this point and I am here.
I have done this before, this way, and my way worked, and it’s working now, and inshallah it will work again and if it doesn’t it will be because of me alone and I will take that. I can handle that.
I would love the company credit for the amount of legwork that went into being told to fuck myself.
The general vibe was software is difficult to patent, go away and come back when you’re a grown up with money, which is a theme.
My apologies for not being rich.
What Comes Next, motherfuckers.
November 14.
Rocky Run 5K. Race number 27 since 2013. Last year: 36:27. I’ve done this before →
